Originally established as the Dakota Ojibway Tribal Council (DOTC) Police Department in 1977, the department now operates as the Manitoba First Nations Police Service, as of June 1, 2018.

As one of the longest operating First Nation Police Services in Canada, Manitoba First Nations Police is a recognized self-administered police agency located in southern Manitoba
