A large crowd showed up Wednesday morning for the grand opening of the new Microtel Inn & Suites located beside Portage at Long Plain First Nation.

The hotel overlooks Crescent Lake.

“I’m very thankful that our council, our staff and our people supported a project like this,” says Chief Dennis Meeches. “I think it’s going to be good for the region. Our corporate sector’s really taken off. We have a lot of projects in the queue right now. We hope to build a second hotel right in Winnipeg at our urban reserve in the city of Winnipeg.”

He says their endeavours to expand the business sector fit well with the fact that Portage definitely indicated need for another hotel if not two. Meeches notes this will be great news for the city, adding Microtel is under the canopy Windham Hotels, one the of the largest in the world.

The Hotel General Manager is Shash Patel.

“Trust me, I ‘ve been waiting for this day for a long time,” says Patel. “It feels great, and we’re expecting quite a few people. As per MasterBUILT’s record, this was one of the smoothest builds.”
